I had an SM relationship with someone who seriously self harmed, during that I did some cutting on her at her request. The cutting in the SM sense was far more shallow than her self harm cuts and she found the sensation a turn on. It was controlled, there was some ritual to it, and it was a consensual act between two adults. It wasn’t self destructive, and while there was an illusion of not being in control, she could have stopped it with one word.
Her cutting for self harm was was self destructive, she did it because of her mental health, not for it. She couldn’t stop, even when she tried to.
The marks from the SM cutting would be gone in a week to ten days, the marks from her self harm will be with her for life.
SM is about pain and pleasure, pleasure from inflicting pain and pleasure from receiving it. As long as all consent is informed and everyone consents, what is the problem?
